While the risk of complications in LASIK surgery is minimal, it does
carry some degree of risk. But now, an advanced computer-controlled
laser technology, called IntraLase,
is available that significantly reduces the risk of complications.
The IntraLase laser is extremely safe and precise, and it offers patients
predictably better visual results.
The Procedure
The LASIK laser vision correction procedure is a two-step process.
First, a flap of corneal tissue must be created and then gently folded
back, and then the actual laser vision correction treatment is performed
on the inner layer of the cornea vision. Traditional LASIK, the flap
is created with a mechanical device that utilizes a surgical blade.
Though they are few, the mechanical device has been attributed as
the source for some of the reported complications.
With the IntraLase, Dr. Blue uses the precision of a laser to create
the corneal flap. The accuracy of the laser (100 times more accurate
than a blade) is unparalleled by any other technology in vision correction
surgery. Additionally, the laser allows Dr. Blue more control during
the procedure, and even allows customization of the corneal flap for
every individual patient. Because of its consistent accuracy, IntraLase
makes it possible to treat many patients who were dismissed as candidates
for laser vision correction due to thin corneas. This makes laser
vision correction at Blue Laser Group an all-laser procedure.
Recovery
As in all types of procedures you may experience some discomfort,
mild to moderate irritation, and blurred vision on the day of your
procedure. Most patient will be able to return to all normal activities
the day after the procedure, with a few guideliness to follow.
The Future of LASIK
Along with Dr. Blue, other leading surgeons nationwide are now adopting
the IntraLase laser, and approximately 50 other practices in the country
have this technology which is becoming known as the key ingredient
to optimal results in laser vision correction surgery. Comparative
clinical studies confirm that patients see better following laser
vision correction with IntraLase than with previous methods.
