Vision correction is pretty simple in the under 40-year-old. We simply correct the prescription that you have and it gives you great distance vision, great intermediate vision, great up close vision.
Everything in life is a little more complicated for us 40-year-old and aboves. And I tell all my patients, after age 40, everything about your body is a compromise. And what we're seeking with laser vision correction in my 40-year-olds and above is, what's the best compromise? The best compromise may be, just like 35-year-old, correct both eyes for distance and wear reading glasses for up close.
And a lot of men actually choose that. And they say, I want to be able to see the antlers in the field or I want to see the Titleist leave the tee box, and I don't mind wearing reading glasses for up close.
My ladies are very different. My ladies will look at me and go Dr. Blue, I'm not wearing reading glasses, you better fix that too. And there actually is an approach called monovision which has been done with contact lenses for many years. It's even more successful with LASIK. And I've had patients that were not successful with monovision with contacts actually successful with monovision with LASIK.
I'm an example of not having to wear glasses or contact lenses for anything. I'm 57 years old and I don't wear glasses for distance or up close. I can see my cell phone, I can see my computer screen, I can see the Titleist leave the tee box. And I can actually fly an airplane with no restrictions on my license. So I can see the field in front of me and all the instruments at my fingertips.
So I'm example of does monovision work? And I've heard patients that have been told monovision doesn't work, or you'll need reading glasses. I can honestly tell you that there's an option for you out there, even for us folks over 40, to not have to deal with glasses.
