Can I have LASIK with astigmatism?

So you've been told that you can't have Lasik due to astigmatism. I still hear this. It's astonishing. We've been correcting astigmatism very accurately for 10 years. In fact, my favorite patients are the ones that come in that have a lot of astigmatism, been told they're not candidates. We'll do their procedure, they'll come back with terrific vision the next day. Obviously, that's a very happy patient.

So astigmatism correction is just part and parcel of Lasik in 2012, and we've been doing astigmatism correction for years. And virtually everybody that comes in seeking Lasik or that wears glasses or contact lenses has at least a small level of astigmatism. So astigmatism is not some unusual problem. It's just part of your prescription, and it's easily corrected by Lasik.

So if you're relying on a $10 billion industry that makes all of its money from keeping you in glasses and contact lenses, maybe that's not your best resource for information about Lasik. Obviously, your best resource for information about Lasik is a doctor that does Lasik. It turns out the only people that are really excited about Lasik are the doctors that do it, that see the terrific results, and the patients that have it, that are the beneficiaries of these terrific results.

About 50% of patients that I currently treat with Lasik have previously been told they're not candidates for Lasik. Now, it's certainly possible for you to have a characteristic of your eye that makes you less than an ideal candidate. The technology we have in 2012 lets me identify that rare person, but over 95% of the people that come in thinking they're not candidates are excellent candidates for Lasik.

And my invitation to you is come, have the evaluation with me, there's no charge for the appointment. You'll find out once and for all-- am I a candidate for Lasik? And I bet I'll have a very pleasant surprise for you, and that you are a candidate for Lasik.
